Literature Text

Twilight Sparkle was in her library that night, as usual, looking for some fresh reading material, when she came across a book she had never noticed before. It was bound in black leather with no title; only a circle with an 'X' through it gave any hints as to what the literature was. The symbol held no meaning to Twilight; she had never seen nor heard of it before. Curious, she used her magic to pull it off the shelf and lay it open before her. Much to her surprise, the pages were blank. There wasn't a single trace of ink on any of them. Twilight immediately had Spike take a letter to Princess Celestia concerning the book, to which she received a frantic reply warning Twilight not to touch that book.

As Twilight began dictating a reply questioning why the book shouldn't be touched if it was in the library, she felt something cold wrapping itself around her flank. Before she could even let loose a paniced yelp, Twilight was whisked through the window, Spike running after her.  Twilight struggled in the creature's grasp, trying to break free, but to no avail. She was not strong enough to fight off whatever it was that held her. Spike chased after them for as long as he could, trying his best to catch up, but eventually the black creature disappeared with Twilight into the forest.  Flying over the forest, or at least attempting to, was a young alicorn named Richie. Rainbowdash was waiting for him in Cloudsdale, but he hadn't been able to gain the altitude needed to reach it, even after jumping off of Sugar Cube Corner's roof.  Tired from all the effort, the poor alicorn tucked in his wings and dropped to the trees below.

Twilight still struggled against her captor, attempting spell after spell to either harm the creature or force it's grip to lessen. Panting, she looked up at what held her: a tall, thin pole-like creature with a round, white head. It had no face, but wore a tuxedo tailored to its peculiar frame.  "Why are you doing this? What do you want with me," Twilight questioned it. It gave no reply that she could see, but she began hearing the high-pitched giggling of colts and fillies. Finally the creature paused, though it did not release the pony. Instead, the tentacle-like appendages that gripped the purple mare lifted her up high, towards the creature's blank, bare head.  As she was being raised, Twilight watched in horror as the white flesh began to tear itself apart, black ooze seeping out to reveal many sharp teeth, silver and curved like daggers.

It was too late for the mare. This terrible, mysterious beast would be the end of her, and she had no way of warning anyone else in Ponyville of this danger. Suddenly, the thing stopped and looked up, just before being smashed into the ground by a creature from the sky.  In it's shock, the tentacles unwound themselves from Twilight Sparkle, who immediately ran out of its reach. Turning to see what had saved her not a second too soon, she noticed a light-colored alicorn with a short brown mane and tail standing up on top of the monster.  He shook himself off, looking dazed, then gasped at the moving mass beneath him.  "Get away, that thing is evil and it's dangerous,"  Twilight called out to him.

Richie jumped off, but didn't run, instead he turned around to face the demon.  "I know!  It's called 'Slenderman'!  I heard about it from the internet!"  Twilight looked utterly confused, wondering what an internet was.  She would have to ask later, assuming they both survived this mess.  The Slenderman stood up; without a true face, it was difficult to determine what it was thinking, but its pose suggested it was ready to fight.  Richie lowered his head and pawed at the ground, staring at the paper-white skin that had put itself back together, once again hiding its teeth.  With an angry snort, the alicorn charged at his foe, waving his horn like a sword.

The attack was easily dodged, and the two repeated the steps like a dance:  charge and dodge, back and forth.  Twilight watched from the trees, unsure of how to help her accidental savior.  After a few more minutes of this, she noticed something in the sky:  a rainbow, and it was heading straight towards them.  As Richie made his next move, Slenderman dodged only to be tackled to the ground by Rainbowdash.  The colorful mare held down the struggling monster as the alicorn took his chance to stab at it, causing deep wounds that leaked the same black liquid as before.

As Slenderman writhed on the ground, the giggling foals could be heard again; this time their voices were distorted, and all three ponies dropped to the ground, trying to cover their ears.  Now they were easy prey.  Slenderman rose and prepared to finish them all off when a grey pegasis wandered by.  Her messy yellow mane was brushed away from her face, revealing beautiful golden eyes, though they looked in different directions.  She walked straight into Slenderman, fell backwards and looked up at it.  "Oh, hello there," she said in a nasaly voice.  The giggling went away and Slenderman turned to its new victim.

The pony smiled up at it, not realizing she was in any danger, and tried to make conversation.  "I thought I was the only one out here!  You look new.  What's your name?  Oh, hi there, Rainbowdash!"  She waved at her fellow pegasis, who was still twitching on the ground.  When she turned back to Slenderman to continue, it was no longer there.  Spinning in circles looking for her new friend, the winged mare found it lying limp on the alicorn's horn.

Richie flung the body aside, covered in the black mess.  "Oh no!  Why would you do that?"  Rainbowdash and Twilight Sparkle managed to stand on their whooves again, shaking off the strange paralysis.  The four ponies looked around at each other, unsure.  Twilight sat down next to the grey pegasis and attempted to explain the situation.  Rainbow trotted over to Richie.  "Hey, you okay?  That was a nice move."  The alicorn looked at his friend and smiled.  Though he was a mess, he had saved all of them; he was glad the girls were safe now and seemed to be unharmed.  After gathering themselves as best they could, the four headed back to Ponyville to tell their story, though the poor grey mare was still utterly confused.
I was talking with *Invader-Rainer last night on FB, and started writing this in chat. I finished it this morning. Haha, yeah, ponies and Slenderman. I'm so messed up right now. Go figure.
